Details: This poster shows a porcupine sitting on its hind legs holding a stick. It appears to be in a forest environment.
Porcupines are rodents best known for their coat of sharp spines, or quills, that defends them from predators. The name comes from Middle French porc d'espine thorny pig . The 11 types of Old World porcupines tend to be fairly large, and have quills that are grouped in clusters. The 12 New World porcupines are mostly smaller, have their quills attached singly, and are excellent climbers, spending much of their time in trees.
