Details: This poster is of a vintage ad created by Leonetto Cappiello. It shows a green devilish figure sneakily de-corking the bottle of wine. At the bottom it says Maurin Quina. Le Puy, France.
Maurin Quina is a French aperitif. The cheeky green sprite recalls the nickname and effects of an infamous beverage, la fee verte - the green fairy, or absinthe. Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) was an Italian poster art designer who lived in Paris. Some of his famous posters include Parapluie-Revel, Pates Baroni, and Bitter Campari. He redesigned the turn of the century pictures into images more relevant to the faster pace of the 20th century.
