Details: This poster is of a Buddist Temple in the Mountains, by an unamed Chinese painter from the 11th century. It shows a landscape of a templt on a hill. Behind the temple are tall, rugged mountains.
A temple is a structure reserved for religious or spiritual activities, such as prayer and sacrifice, or analogous rites. Buddhism is a religion, a family of beliefs and practices, and is based on the teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as The Buddha (the Awakened One), who was born in what is today Nepal. He lived and taught in the northeastern region of the Indian subcontinent and most likely died around 400 BCE. Landscape was borrowed as a painters' term from Dutch during the 16th century, when Dutch artists were on the verge of becoming masters of the landscape genre. The Dutch word had acquired the artistic sense, which it brought over into English, of 'a picture depicting scenery on land'.
