Bartholomew Bruyn the Elder (1493 - 1549) was a German artist. His later work was greatly influenced by the prevailing tendencies of Southern art. He was at first influenced by the Dutch, but his later works display the most vivid tendencies from which he contrived to make up an art of his own. Best representative of his pictures is Lamentation over the Body of Christ.
