Details: This poster is of The Shooting of the Insurgents on 3 May, 1808 in Madrid, by Francisco de Goya. It shows a row of soldiers firing at close range at a group of insurgents, some of whom are hiding, crying, or have their hands up.

Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes (30 March 1746 - 16 April 1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker. Goya was a court painter to the Spanish Crown and a chronicler of history. He has been regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and as the first of the moderns. The subversive and subjective element in his art, as well as his bold handling of paint, provided a model for the work of later generations of artists, notably Manet and Picasso. His themes range from merry festivals for tapestry, draft cartoons, to scenes of war and corpses. This evolution reflects the darkening of his temper. Near the end of his life, he became reclusive and produced frightening and obscure paintings of insanity, madness, and fantasy.

This poster is usually printed with a thin white edge border.
