The Statue of Liberty is a large statue that was presented to the United States by France in 1886. It stands at Liberty Island, New York in New York Harbor. The copper patina-clad statue is of a female figure standing upright, dressed in a robe and a seven point spiked rays representing a nimbus (halo), holding a stone tablet close to her body in her left hand and a flaming torch high in her right hand. New York City is one of the world's major global cities. Its business organizations play a major role in the economy of the nation and of the world. The city is also one of the world's most important cultural centers and is the home of the United Nations. Major tourist destinations include the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Broadway productions, the Brooklyn Bridge, and scores of museums and restaurants.
