Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh has risen to the peak of artistic achievements. Although Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous. Van Gogh painted Starry Night while in an Asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889. It is one of the most well known images in modern culture as well as being one of the most replicated and sought after prints.
Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 - 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist. Some of his paintings are now among the world's best known, most popular and expensive works of art. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life, during which time he cut off part of his left ear following a breakdown in his friendship with Paul Gauguin. After this he suffered recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide. His popular works include The Starry Night, Starry Night Over the Rhone, The Night Cafe, Bedroom in Arles, Sunflowers, Cafe Terrace at Night.
