It is an adaptation of the novel Rum Punch by American novelist Elmore Leonard and pays homage to 1970's blaxploitation films. The film stars Pam Grier as Jackie Brown, Robert Forster Max Cherry, Robert De Niro Louis Gara, Samuel L. Jackson as Ordell Robbie, Bridget Fonda as Melanie Ralston, and Michael Keaton as Ray Nicolette. It was Tarantino's third film following his successes with Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Pulp Fiction (1994).
