Details: This is a brand new tin sign. It is one of C.M. Coolidge's Dogs Playing Poker pieces: A Friend in Need, which shows seven dogs at the card table. A cultural icon, Coolidge shows us again why he is the master of pop artistry. Notice here how the boxer is passing over that ace of spade to his Friend in need. The Collie seems confident, but don't be too sure with those two cheating rascals around. Hilarious as it is beautiful.
Dogs Playing Poker is a series of oil paintings by C. M. Coolidge. All the paintings in the series feature anthropomorphized dogs in behaviors of playing poker, smoking cigars, dancing, playing baseball, and testifying in court. Of the 16 paintings, the nine in which dogs are seated around a card table playing poker and smoking cigars have become popular. The series has an appeal that has made it part of American pop culture.
