Details: Norman Rockwell sold his first illustration to The Saturday Evening Post in 1916. Over the next 50 years he produced more than 300 covers for that magazine, a body of work that helped shape 20th-century American identity and that elevated Rockwell (American, 1894–1978) to the status of cultural icon. Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 - November 8, 1978) was a 20th century American painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States, where Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over four decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series.
