Details: John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was the most sought after society portrait painter of his era with his glamorous style influenced by Velazquez and the Impressionists. Though best known for his grand scale works in oil, he was also a highly skilled water colorist. This is a 16 Month Calendar
John Singer Sargent (January 12, 1856 - April 14, 1925) was the most successful portrait painter of his era. During his career, he created roughly 900 oil paintings and more than 2,000 watercolors, as well as countless sketches and charcoal drawings. His oeuvre documents worldwide travel, from Venice to the Tyrol, Corfu, the Middle East, Montana, Maine, and Florida. In a time when the art world focused, in turn, on Impressionism, Fauvism, and Cubism, Sargent practiced his own form of Realism. His seemingly effortless facility for paraphrasing the masters in a contemporary fashion led to a stream of commissioned portraits of remarkable virtuosity.
