Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was the fortieth president of the United States of America. Before his politcal career began, Reagan was an actor, the president of the Screen Actors Guild as well as working for General Electric. He was elected ogvernor of California in 1967 and 1970. He ran unsuccesfully for the Republican Presidential nomination against incumbent Gerald Ford in 1975. In 1980 he won the Presidential Election against Jimmy Carter, running on a platform based around the principles of lower taxes to stimulate the economy, less governmental interference in people's lives, states' rights and strong national defense. The Republican party still uses Reagan's principles as their foundations. Reagan was reelected in 1984, making the full length of his presidency 1980-1988. In 1994 Reagan announced that he suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. He died in 2004 at the age of 93.
