Hiroshima is the capital city of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. It was the first city destroyed by a nuclear weapon when the US dropped an atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. An atomic bomb, or nuclear weapon uses nuclear reactions for it's destructive force. The bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima was a uranium bomb. Only two nuclear weapons have ever been used offensively, Hiroshima's and a few days later a similar attack was launched on Nagasaki. Both attacks remain controversial.
