Dreams are a series of images, sounds and feelings in narrative form that occur during sleep. Dreams typically last in the range of 5 to 45 minutes. The content and purpose of dreams are not fully understood. The scientific study of dreams is known as oneirology. Dreams have a long history both as a subject of conjecture and as a source of inspiration. They have been described physiologically as a response to neural processes during sleep, psychologically as reflections of the subconscious, and spiritually as messages from God or predictions of the future. Modern popular culture often conceives of dreams as expressions of the dreamer's deepest fears and desires.
