Details: This poster shows the Tibetan flag. At the top it says Free Tibet .
The Tibetan independence movement, sometimes using the slogan Free Tibet , is a movement to establish historical Tibet as an independent state. The movement is largely led by Tibetans in exile with the support of some individuals and organizations outside of Tibet. Among these supporters are a number of American and European celebrities, and some non-Tibetan followers of Tibetan Buddhism. The goals of the Tibetan independence movement are different to the goals of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists. In response to the 2008 unrest in Tibet, the Dalai Lama reiterated that he only wants greater autonomy for Tibet within China, not full independence, which he described as out of the question .
