Details: This poster is a reproduction of Utgawa Hiroshige's Naruto Rapids. It is a traditinal Japanese style with swirling blue waves crashing against rocks. Green land can be seen in the distance.
Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a Japanese Uhiyo-e artist. The shon of a shogun, Hiroshiye studied as an apprentice under Utagaw Toyohiro. His early work focused largely on women and actors but her began painting landscapes in 1831. After his death, in 1859, a collection of his prints entitled One Hundred Famous Views of Edo was published.
