God of War is a series of action-adventure games based on Greek mythology. The games include God of War, God of War II, God of War: Betrayal, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and God of War III. The story of God of War revolves around Kratos, a former captain in the Spartan army who sets out to kill Ares, the god of war. In God of War II, Kratos, after his defeat of Ares, has become the new God of War. In God of War: Betryal, Kratos is framed for the murder of Hera's pet, Argos, by an unknown assassin in an effort to destroy the anti-hero's reputation with the gods of Olympus. Chains of Olympus is set halfway through Kratos' 10 years of service to the Gods. God of War III takes place after the events of God of War II.
