The Grand Canyon of Snake River is the long gorge in Snake River where it forms part of Idaho-Oregon boundary. The deepest canyon in North America, it averages 5,500 ft (1,700 m) depth for 40 miles (65 km). The deepest point 7,900 ft (2,400 m) is in the southern part called Hells Canyon, Seven Devils Canyon, or Box Canyon. The Snake River is a major tributary of the Columbia River in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The river's length is 1,040 miles (1,670 km). The river flows from its source in Yellowstone National Park through a series of mountain ranges, canyons, and plains.
