Details: This poster is of John Haberle's Imitation Old Money and shows an old dollar bill and fifty cent bill, as well as a few old coins and stamps. At the bottom it says Old Money: American Trompe L'Oeil Images of Currency. Berry-Hill Galleries New York.
John Haberle (1856 - 1933) was a 19th century United States trompe l'oeil artist whose specialty was paper money. He was warned by the Secret Service to cease and desist, but continued anyway. Trompe-l'oeil is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects really exist, instead of being just two-dimensional paintings.
