Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas is a book written by American author Hunter S. Thompson, who during the 1960s and 70s pioneered "Gonzo Journalism" a style that required the journalist to get lost in the story and become the center of the reporting. The book focuses on Thompson's alter ego Roaul Drake, and his "attorney" Dr. Gonzo's search for the American Dream in Las Vegas. A film version of the book starring actor Johnny Depp as Drake was released in 1998. Thompson's other work includes the novel The Rum Diary. In addition to illustrating most of Thompson's work, British cartoonist Robert Steadman has illustrated versions of Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island, Animal Farm and Farenheit 451.
