Details: This poster is of The Potato Eaters, by Vincent Van Gogh. It shows five peasants sitting around a table eating a meal. They are lit by a single oil lamp hanging in the middle. The woman on the right is pouring coffee, while the others are starting to eat. Van Gogh wanted to depict peasants as they really were. He deliberately chose coarse and ugly models.
Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 - 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist. Some of his paintings are now among the world's best known, most popular and expensive works of art. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life, during which time he cut off part of his left ear following a breakdown in his friendship with Paul Gauguin. After this he suffered recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide. His popular works include The Starry Night, Starry Night Over the Rhone, The Night Cafe, Bedroom in Arles, Sunflowers, Cafe Terrace at Night.
This poster is usually printed with a thin white edge border.
